Check out the article below about the 48′ Doug Wright–Built V–Bottom, set to be rigged by TNT Custom Marine!!
This new boat from Doug Wright Designs is a little different. First of all, the new 48-foot V-bottom that was designed and constructed by Doug Wright and his team in Melbourne, Fla., is unlike anything they’ve built before. It’s also difficult to classify. It’s an offshore performance V-bottom—to leave no doubt the owner opted for twin Mercury Racing 1100 engines— but it’s got a little bit of cruiser in it thanks to a variety of conveniences the owner wanted to include.
“It’s hard to describe, but it’s like a computer model copy of a Bertram or an old boat from the ’80s,” Wright said. “It has a more current bottom with two steps, running pads, lifting strakes and all that, but it’s got an older style to it with the semi canopy and three stand-up bolsters in the cockpit protected by a giant windshield. It went from a computer model to the boat that just left for paint at Visual Imagination in a little less than two years.
“It was a lengthy process involving a lot of time and materials, but it turned out nice,” he continued. “I can’t wait to see it after paint and rigging. We have the tooling to build more but I don’t know if we will. It depends on how this one comes together. Based on our calculations, the boat, which weighs about 12,000 pounds, should run over 100 mph.”Wright added that the owner would likely never run the boat that fast anyhow. It was built for pleasure and comfort, which is why after it is painted at Visual Imagination and rigged by TNT Custom Marine in North Miami, it is going to Genesis Interiors in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for the finishing touches. Included in the interior of the boat, which features a 9-foot, 8-inch beam, is a stand-up shower, full kitchen, table, sleeping quarters and more.
