The 2025 Great Lakes Grand Prix returns to Michigan City, IN on August 2 and 3, bringing some of the top names in offshore powerboat racing to the southern shore of Lake Michigan. Among them is veteran throttleman Johnny Tomlinson, who will be competing in two different classes over the weekend. In the Factory Stock division, Johnny will team up with Caleb Mead aboard the MF Racing vessel, a pairing expected to deliver strong performance on the nearly 5-mile course. Tomlinson will also throttle in the premier PRO Class One category, joining forces with Carlos de Quesada in the Pothole Heroes entry. Competing in two high-profile classes showcases Tomlinson’s skill and endurance, with both boats expected to be in contention.
This year’s Michigan City race is part of the World Powerboat Racing Association national series and draws thousands of fans and top teams from around the country. The dual-role challenge is nothing new for Tomlinson, whose experience across multiple classes continues to be a standout in the sport. Both MF Racing and Pothole Heroes are expected to test the limits of their boats in what could be one of the most competitive lineups of the season. With back-to-back days of action and changing lake conditions, throttle control, communication, and strategy will be key which are areas where Tomlinson has consistently excelled. Spectators can expect close battles and fast runs from both vessels he’ll throttle.
