Johnny Tomlinson Takes the Throttles in Class 1 at Clearwater

Clearwater Offshore Nationals week is here! The 2026 Clearwater Offshore Nationals run September 25 through 27 off Clearwater Beach, and Johnny will be in on the throttles of the 48 foot MTI Class 1 catamaran alongside owner and driver Willy Cabeza. Class 1 is the top of this sport, roughly 1,100 horsepower a side through twin inboards, 40 to 50 feet of catamaran, and speeds north of 150 miles an hour on a Gulf course tight enough that the fans on the sand feel every pass. Handling the throttles on a boat like that is a full time job from the green flag to the checker, reading the water a second before it arrives and keeping the hull planted through the turns. Nobody in the sport has done it more, or better, than Johnny has.
