Tomlinson’s Take: The Attraction of Key West
The greatest domestic offshore racing event happens at the end of the road.
I think I’ve missed just one race in Key West, Fla., since I started racing there in 1986. That was 11 years later in 1997 when Laith Pharaon and I were in Dubai for the Union International Motonautique Class 1 World Championship, which we won by going undefeated that year. The year before, Laith and I took the American Power Boat Association Open-class world title in – you guessed it – Key West. We went undefeated that year, too, in Zero Defect, the Skater catamaran we also ran the following year on the UIM circuit.
