With throttleman John Tomlinson and driver Myrick Coil sharing the cockpit of a new-for-the-season Skater Powerboats 388 catamaran with Sterling Performance engines, the Performance Boat Center-backed team dominated much of the five-race regular reason. The team capped it off by taking home a national championship in Clearwater, Fla., and came into Key West as the favorite to take the title.

In early November, TNT Custom Marine’s own John Tomlinson competed in the 2016 SBI Key West World Championship after a whirlwind of an offshore racing season. As a part of the Performance Boat Center Offshore Race Team, Tomlinson joined the crew once again to go toe–to–toe with some of the biggest, fastest boats in offshore racing! At the end of the races, the team walked away with the highly–coveted World Championship title!

After earning a Superboat-class world championship in a 38-foot Skater catamaran with Performance Boat Center teammate Myrick Coil last month in Key West, Fla., John Tomlinson took a well-deserved break — at least for him. That’s right, the best throttleman in offshore racing history headed back to Miami to work three 12-hour days before jetting to Abu Dhabi to defend his 2015 Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 world title. Sharing the cockpit of the Abu Dhabi MTI catamaran with Gary Ballough, Tomlinson returned to the states nine days later with a second-place overall finish.

Based on unofficial results, Performance Boat Center Offshore Racing snagged the 2016 Superboat Class SBI World Championship title over the weekend! “On Friday we had a position we wanted to take on the start but we were dead last out of the milling area,” Tomlinson said a couple of hours before Sunday’s race. “Instead of just going to where there was a hole, we tried to go to that position and it just wasn’t there. Today, we’ll take what’s in front of us.” And that’s exactly what they did on Sunday afternoon by finishing first and unofficially claiming the world title.
